Today I cut out 700, that's right- 700 small cards that have challenges listed on them for the group heading to the Dominican next week- 112 students. The cards will be in a jar, and the deal is that if they pick it out, they HAVE to do whatever it says. They don't ever have to pick one out, but I'm guessing they'll either want to or be pressured into it.
I came up with most of them (there are multiples of every single one, so I didn't come up with 700, I assure you)--some had to be crazy and some had to be spiritual.
Example of crazy: "High-five yourself enthusiastically six times in front of people. Do not explain."
Example of spiritual: "Write down all of the ways you see God provide for you today. Share those thoughts with 3 people on the trip."
Hopefully they have fun with it. Hopefully too it will stretch them into a deeper relationship with God and with a community of people who really love them and care about them and will be surrounding them even when they return to the states.

In other news, today I got on the dry erase board quote wall. This is a big deal, because according to Drew, "Only the funniest things people say get up there. Don't be expecting to get up there too soon."
False. I got up there TODAY, and it wasn't even intentionally funny, which was the beauty of it all.
The conversation that led to the quote being recorded went something like this:
Drew: Claire, you know you don't have to cut all those cards by hand, we have a paper cutter!
Me: I just don't want any of the words to get cut off!
Drew: Well, still
Me: ALSO...my seventh grade science teacher used a paper cutter once and cut off the tops of THREE of his fingers. Now all he has are nubbins.
From "My seventh..." to "...are nubbins" was written on the board today with my name after the quote and a time stamp.
Big step.
Ah, laughter and quotable words. Two great gifts of God. :)
